Soaring Competitions

What is a Soaring Competition?

Soaring Competitions, also known as "contests", are one of the most interesting and exciting aspects of soaring. Soaring competitions pit pilots against each other in a race for distance, where the fastest overall pilot at the end of the competition is the winner.

The site for the 2024 Canadian National Soaring Championships has not yet been announced.

Online Contest (OLC)

The Online Contest ("OLC") is a web-based soaring contest open to pilots worldwide. It is hosted by a team of volunteers through the German magazine Aerokurier. The Online Contest is unique in that it is a de-centralized contest. While contests are typically held in a centralized location over an extended period of time, the Online Contest allows you to compete against pilots around the world and make every soaring flight a potential contest flight.

Alberta Soaring Council is a founding sponsor of the made-in-Alberta External link opens in new tab or windowProving Grounds program.

The Proving Grounds platform provides a unique, low maintenance approach to cross-country training and member development.  Pilots fly fixed tasks and email their traces to a customized ‘bot’ for their club which returns time & average speed for successfully flown tasks automatically. Proving Ground Task sheets for our Alberta Clubs can be found below.
